Amourgynoir in Practice: Building our Capacity to Provide Black-centred and Survivor-led Supports to Black Survivors of Gender-based Violence and Crime.
Black communities in Canada, particularly Black women, girls, gender-diverse, and trans (B-WGGDT) people, continue to experience significant and compounding inequities across the health, education, criminal legal, and social service systems. These systemic failures create heightened vulnerability to gender-based violence and crime while simultaneously restricting access to culturally grounded and trauma- and violence-informed support services.
The organization’s project will provide training for service providers and governments to provide Black-centred, survivor led, trauma and violence informed, culturally grounded, and accessible supports and services for Black victims and survivors of gender-based violence. By integrating trauma and violence-informed approaches with culturally grounded methodologies, the project will ensure that Black survivors are not only heard but meaningfully integrated in shaping the supports they receive.

Objective 1: Sustain, honour, and mobilize the knowledge and expertise shared, impact generated, and community developed during Truth and Transformation: Advancing Gender Equity for Black Women, Girls, Gender-Diverse and Trans (B-WGGDT) People in Canada initiative, working against gendered anti-Black systems, processes and practices of erasure, silencing, and violence, and instead move towards the embedding of Amourgynoir principles.
Objective 2: Equip service providers and government(s) to provide trauma- and violence- informed, culturally-grounded, and accessible supports and services to Black survivors, families and communities through the delivery and evaluation of a survivor- and Black-led training, mobilizing the Amourgynoir Framework and FeedIn, FeedBack, FeedForward methodology.
Objective 3: Build community, multi-level, and cross-sector capacity to safely and effectively respond to and have awareness of the unique experiences and needs of Black survivors of violence/crime through the development and mobilization of trauma- and violence-informed, culturally-grounded, and accessible resources.
